The eFellows Program is designed to incentivize and support faculty to redesign courses using best practices for teaching methodologies and technology for blended or online delivery. Mini-grants are available to support the redesign process as well as focused support and instructional design expertise from Educational Technology.
If you want to become a 2017 eFellow at Missouri S&T or just want more information, please submit a Letter of Intent to Angie Hammons (hammonsa@mst.edu, x6195).
Letters of Intent should include the name of the course, the project tier intended (1, 2, or 3), and names of co-PI’s, if applicable.
Letters of intent are due no later than Friday, April 22, 2016!

Bring a copy of your syllabus and join with fellow instructors for a discussion and “how-to” session on writing good learning goals and aligning assignments and assessments with learning goals. On October 9th CERTI and EdTech will present “Course Organization and Social Presence” from 3:00PM to 4:30PM in Curtis Laws Wilson Library, Room 204. This eLearning Community of Practice / eFellows presentation will cover how instructors can set clear expectations as they redesign their courses for blended/online learning.
Objectives for this session include:
- Create a plan for course organization
- Identify instructor presence
- Identify how instructor presence might be included in your course

EdTech is hosting an eFellows Call for Participation Workshop on Thursday, March 20, in Interdisciplinary Engineering Room 104 at 2 p.m. (during EdTech U).
If you are interested in redesigning your course to take advantage of new technologies to improve student outcomes, or simply to reach more students, then this workshop may be for you.
The eFellows Program is designed to incentivize and support faculty to redesign courses using best practices for teaching methodologies and technology for blended or online delivery. Mini-grants are available to support the redesign process as well as focused support and instructional design expertise from Educational Technology.
Participation in this workshop is required before applying to the 2015 eFellows Program. Program materials and application packets will be distributed at the workshop.
During this workshop, former and current eFellows will discuss their own experiences in going through the program, what lessons they’ve learned, and how it has impacted their teaching.

]]>New eFellows have been selected for the 2013-2014 academic year. The eFellows program is an opportunity for instructors to redesign their courses to incorporate more technology, with the overall goal of improving student performance. Instructors can overhaul entire courses, designing from the ground up (Tier 1), or they can make relatively minor changes, changing only one aspect of their course at a time (Tiers 2 and 3).
Provost W. Kent Wray—with input from Educational Technology (EdTech) and Dr. Jeff Schramm, who is Special Assistant to the Provost for eLearning—has awarded eFellows grants to the following individuals:
TIER 1 (up to $5,000)
Tier 1 is a full course redesign. Instructors may take up to a full semester to redesign a course from first principles, with the expectation that they will be delivered in the following semester. Courses may be delivered in an online or blended format.
Awardees:
- Dr. Olivia Burgess (English & Technical Communication) – Developing an Online Version of English 60: Research and Writing
- Dr. Dave Westenberg (Biological Sciences) – Building an Inverted Microbiology Laboratory Course to Increase Student Preparation and Enhance Student Engagement
- Lucy Sutcliffe (Speech Communication Center) & Dr. Irina Ivliyeva (Arts, Language, & Philosophy) – Enhanced GTA Training and Assessment Practices with Technology
- Terry Wilson (Biological Sciences) – Redevelopment of Cellular Biology Lab Lecture
- Dr. Amber Henslee (Psychology) – Course Redesign of Psych 50
TIER 2 (up to $2,000)
Tier 2 is an intermediate step between Tiers 1 and 3. It is smaller in scope than Tier 1, focusing on one or more aspects of a single course, rather than a full redesign. A Tier 2 project could eventually lead to a course redesign over time. Elements of Tier 2 can be introduced in the semester in which they are developed.
Awardees:
- Kellie Grasman (Engineering Management & Systems Engineering) – Online Management Concepts
- Dr. Joan Schuman (Engineering Management & Systems Engineering) – Introduction to Project Management Redesign
- Emma Satterfield (Chemistry) – Tailoring Resources and Increasing Accessibility for Students in General Chemistry
- Dr. Katie Shannon (Biological Sciences)
- Kim Kinder (Mathematics & Statistics) – Using Remediation Videos with Calc II and Continuing Use of iPad Apps for Immediate Response to Student Questions.
- Dr. Fiona Nah (Business & Information Technology) – Using Blended Learning to Teach a Core Course in IST
TIER 3 (up to $1,000):
Tier 3 eFellows projects are about the adoption of technology and the teaching strategies necessary to improve teaching and learning. Typically, it a Tier 3 project only makes minor, but important changes, to an existing course, introduced over the course of a semester.
Awardees:
- There are no Tier 3 eFellows for 2013-2014.
Participants in the eFellows program will spend the next several months developing technology changes to their courses. They will work extensively with EdTech to ensure that their technological and pedagogical needs are aligned with each other to produce the best possible course experience for the students.
Participants will also be presenting on their progress and findings at numerous events throughout the academic year. This includes EdTech’s annual Teaching and Learning Technology Conference (March 13-14, 2014) and CERTI events.

This round of proposals will only be for Tier 2 and Tier 3 projects.
Tier 2 – Stepwise Redesign (up to $2,000) is an intermediate step between Tiers 1 and 3. It is smaller in scope than Tier 1, focusing on one or more aspects of a single course, rather than a full course redesign. A Tier 2 project could eventually lead to a course redesign over time.
Tier 3 – Teaching with Technology (up to $1,000) eFellows projects are about the adoption of technology and the teaching strategies to improve teaching and learning.

EdTech also hosts an eLearning Community of Practice (eCoP) which is a peer learning community that coincides with the eFellows program and is especially helpful for instructors who are interested exploring ideas before attempting a full course redesign. Along with the eFellows, members of the eCoP will be invited to participate in a blended course, CyberEd (inside of Blackboard), that introduces essential concepts and best practices for eLearning. eCoP participants will receive consultation and assistance from EdTech staff on applying these practices to their courses, in small scale, at their option.
If you would like to request an application packet for the 2013 eFellows Program at the Tier 2 or Tier 3 level, please send a brief letter (email) of intent as described in the brochure linked below to Meg Brady (megbrady@mst.edu).
An instructional designer or technologist will be assigned to work with you to complete the application. Alternately, you can schedule an appointment or stop by EdTech U (Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in IDE 105).
Applications are due no later than Friday, October 26, 2012.
