Etymology was the hobby of Dean Curtis L. Wilson, the long-time Dean of the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and the man the current school library is named after. I can recall a speech Dean Wilson gave our fraternity in the early 1960s in which he descibed his fondness for etymology, using several examples to further the points of his speech.
