I asked him about himself, and encouraged him to take an art course. He later fire- spun for International Night of Peace, which was quite beautiful.
Derek is such a vibrant and mindful person, and it has been a privilege to have him class and to continue to have a relationship with him long after he has left. I am so thrilled to see the expansive work he is doing!
I hope Derek’s story will encourage other students to include all their passions in their life equations, and to see life’s hurdles as surmountable. One can do both engineering and other pursuits, and see how they contribute to each other. Derek is a Renaissance Man, with equal measures of humility, talent, and drive.
