I learned to play golf when I was a student at Rolla in the 60’s. Continued playing for the next 50 years until an injury prevented me from continuing. I played every day, weather permitting for a few years there, even if I couldn’t find anyone else to play that day and had to play alone. Some of my fondest memories of Rolla are associate with the golf course. I hate to see it go.

I remember playing the course in the early 1960’s. It was the first course I ever played with sand greens.
There was a math professor … who liked to play the course and without asking he would play through any students he incountered on the course. He was mean in class too —- he would return test papers high grade first. My heart would sink every time my name wasn’t called.
I think it’s a good idea other uses for the course. I liked all the input that went into deciding what should be done with the funds.

We add Men’s and Women’s golf back and kill the course. Very sad indeed. At least the S&T team will have access to the Rolla country club course, but the problem is that many students and employees do not. Golf is one of the best activities to relax from daily work and school stress. I feel like we have taken a step backwards towards creating a more balanced work place environment.

This is very disappointing news for me. This is where my father, Ken Lanning, discovered the game. He is in the Missouri S&T Hall of Fame, among other state HOF’s. The course is where his very popular junior golf tournament was held for many years. I have very fond memories of that course and drive by every time I visit Rolla. One of the best teachers in the game today, Stan Utley (West Plains), received most of his tutoring at this golf facility. Sad news.

Sad day. I had a lot of great times with friends on that course in the late 90s. It’s where I learned how to play the game, and still love to play it today.
