Comments on: Missouri S&T civil engineering professor advocates for Midwest tornado preparation https://news.mst.edu/2018/07/missouri-st-civil-engineering-professor-preaches-midwest-tornado-preparation/ Your source for the latest from Rolla Tue, 14 Aug 2018 20:01:45 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.5.7 By: David G Sizemore https://news.mst.edu/2018/07/missouri-st-civil-engineering-professor-preaches-midwest-tornado-preparation/#comment-151627 Wed, 25 Jul 2018 21:40:03 +0000 https://news.mst.edu/?p=22949#comment-151627 A novel and instructive approach to the problem. Most people fear loss of life given the perfidy of tornado behavior and the destructive forces behind them. How can we productively reduce loss of life through better buildings given the financial impact- perhaps using a mortgage concept up front? Having seem first hand the effects including a tornado 20 miles away leaving debris in my Kansas City, MO backyard I suspect people take a fatalistic approach. We need better early warning systems (much better now than before) and perhaps a Smart House that can sense a coming storm and react protectively?
An impressive service is being delivered yet again by the research at MO S & T!
