I suspect the more difficult aspect is for students to have the time to take formal courses on the subject.
It is vital therefore for degree programs to work seminars into each students schedule that can be a stepping stone for those with specific needs. It has always been the case that S&T students are given that most vital ingredient: a talent for life-long learning to meet the needs of ever changing society.
